FTW Code Compliance spraying for mosquitoes carrying West Nile near Fire Station 27, 2940 Precinct Line, Oct. 5-6

The city is continuing to trap and test mosquitoes for West Nile virus. This week, a number of mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile virus in your area. In conjunction with partners at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, the city will target ground spray to kill disease-carrying mosquitoes.

Targeted spraying

· Residential neighborhoods surrounding Fire Station 27, 2940 Precinct Line. Spraying will take place Oct. 5-6, weather permitting, starting at 9 p.m.

About the process

The chemical that is used is similar to that available over-the-counter at hardware stores. It’s 3,500 times less concentrated because all we’re trying to kill is a tiny mosquito.

The spray is not hazardous to humans, pets, fish or larger insects.

Out of an abundance of caution, residents should keep pets indoors and keep windows closed during spraying.

Code Compliance officers will canvass the area before and during spraying.
