River Trails family in dire need of our help

***Update on the Evans' family.
They are having a memorial service for Nekia at their home this afternoon. If anyone would like to provide a dish for the memorial, please deliver it to their home at 8520 Pedernales Trail, by 3pm today.***

Ladies and Gentlemen of RT neighborhood, let’s come together for a family in need this Christmas.

We have a RT family of four who needs all of our support. The mother is on hospice care and was brought home to be with her family in the last day or so. Her husband lost his job for missing so much work to take care of her. Her son is a LDBell senior on the football team and has been helping his dad with his little sister that’s in 2nd grade at RT Elementary and also caring for his mom.

**Update. - The family and nurses have moved her back to the hospital and in the in hospital hospice care as it is very hard on the children to see their mom this way, and her only being 42, dying is not as quick or as easy as it would be for someone older.  Derek is home intermittently and as expected, he is exhausted . **

These neighbors need our help during this most trying time in their lives and during this Christmas season.

A fellow neighbor reached out to two moms earlier this week connected with the baseball and football teams at Bell and they put the  pieces in motion. The family was surprised today by LD Bell High School administration, coaches, staff and parents.

Neheh Johnson who is their son is a Senior at Bell and is a football player and very proud of Bell High School. Last Friday evening, cars pulled up to their home with Principal, Vice Principal, coaches, facility and others. They had graduation balloons and someone bought his cap and gown and his diploma and the family gathered around moms bed where they presented him his diploma ( yes Naheh you still have to take finals lol) His mom opened her eyes and was SO PROUD of her son . Gave him a thumbs up . He was told to change the tassel to the other side but in true Sr form he decided to toss the hat.
NEKIA and NAHEH their son shared what every parent looks forward to see your child graduate.
They have it on video and took lots of pic

THANKS LD BELL HIGH SCHOOL & FRIENDs who thought of this AMAZING IDEA. She will not be at graduation in May but that is not a regret the family will have. Thank you all for the memory made
Way to go LD Bell! ❤️

IT’S OUR TURN NEIGHBORS... let’s put the wheels in motion for our neighbors. If you have a giving heart, if you want to pull together and help out, if you’ve lost a love one battling cancer and know what they are going thru financially and emotionally, if you have been thinking what could be the perfect gift, if you really want to make a difference this Christmas, here you go....

You can do any of the below....

1. Pick a night to sponsor with the meal train. Just click below and decide what day you want to cover. The intent of the meal train is to provide meals for the family every night so they don’t have to deal with it. It can be bought, made or whatever. If you don’t want to cover the cost of a whole meal, go in with a neighbor.

2. Donate to the GoFundMe page. The page was established by a relative of the family that they trust.
The funds will be used to pay the families bills. Derek the dad is concerned about making the house note and other bills due to being out of work while beside his wife. Money will also go to moms funeral expenses and whatever the family deems necessary.

3. You can drop off everyday household items or gifts for the children at 8240 Sandhill Crane (Melissa McDougall's house) and she will get them there. We just don’t want people knocking and showing up during these last couple of days with mom.

We want the community to know and decide to help where you see fit. I know for me and mine, we will do our part.

Kiss your kids, tell your loved ones you love them, love your neighbor and be the kind of person you want to know. ❤️

Thank you all so kindly! I’ll keep you posted.

Let’s ROCK THIS! 😘😘😘

  1. OK, I think our Church is going to host a benefit "Chili supper and or Chilli Cook Off" for this family. It will likely be the second Wednesday evening in January...OR we can do it another day! I will get together with several this evening and nail out the details. Maybe it will be enough to get them through the first couple months of the new year! It's Bellevue in Hurst...I welcome any help or suggestions anyone may have!
